Joe and Willie Off to Omaha and Then the Pros!

University of Washington stars, Joe DeMers and Willie MacIver, and their Husky team, are headed to the College World Series after a dramatic extra inning win in the deciding game of the Super Regionals.
It is UW’s first trip to Omaha.
The win capped a memorable week for long-time Lamorinda Baseball stalwarts MacIver and DeMers, who were drafted last week (9th and 11th rounds) by the Colorado Rockies and the Oakland Athletics, respectively.
Joe DeMers was one of the greatest players ever to play Lamorinda Baseball. The many-time-selection to Team USA led the national team to several world titles.
He was the Gatorade National Player of the Year for Coach Andy Tarpley at College Park High School in Pleasant Hill, CA.
He led the Lamorinda Cougars to Travelball National Championships at 11U and 13U and he was selected as the Travelball Player of the Year by TravelballSelect at 12U.

The childhood friends grew up together, starting their baseball careers for the Pleasant Hill Condors before joining Lamorinda Baseball, the Zoots, College Park and finally the University of Washington.
While Willie was one of the most clutch performers in regional travel ball, he was a relative late bloomer as a pro prospect.
He burst on the national radar with his invitation to play summer ball at Cape Cod last year and had a spectacular performance resulting in his All Cape Cod League post season selection.
We couldn’t be happier for or prouder of these two and wish them all the best as they battle in Omaha and in their professional careers!
