Lamorinda National Team June 2010

National sweeps the USA Baseball 14U Championships East!

The Lamorinda National team, a team of elite 13U/14U players from across the country, remained undefeated throughout the USA Baseball 14U Championships East tournament.

The tournament, held in Ft Myers, Florida from June 19-23, 2010 pitted 18 top 14U teams against each other in a race for the Championship title.  Lamorinda National stampeded through pool play, winning all four games, allowing only 8 runs, while scoring 34.

Entering the single elimination playoff bracket as the 1st seed, Lamorinda National did not disappoint.  On their way to the Championship Game they defeated:

·         The 16th seed Fort Bend Texans, 12-4

·         The 8th seed Florida Red Sox B, 8-6

·         The 13th seed Warriors Baseball, 5-2

The Championship Game pitted the team against the local heroes, #3 Team Strikezone from nearby Tampa , Florida .  With their rock solid defense and big bats working overtime, Lamorinda shut down Strikezone with a score of 9-0.

The USA Baseball Championship Tournament East, along with the West Championships held at the same time in Arizona, was a showcase to determine the final pool of candidates who will compete for spots on the 14U TEAM USA who will travel to Nicaragua to represent the United States in the Pan American games in July.  Five of the Lamorinda National team had already been selected to this USA Trials Team:  Luke Alexander, Joe DeMers, Lucas Herbert, Elijiah Skipps and Daniel Slominski.  By the end of the tournament, four more invitations to the final trials had been extended to Lamorinda team members Quentin Davis, Keaton McKinney, Darren Miller, and Max Wotell.

The 40 member Trials Team will meet at the USA Baseball Training Facility in Cary , North Carolina for a final five-day evaluation.  The final, 18 member TEAM USA will be announced on July 18.  The team will head to Managua , Nicaragua a few days later to compete at the Pan American Games.
