A USSSA 21-8 record would be pretty amazing for many teams and it is, but that’s just the Spartans record from playing 12U competitors! The team from Moraga, California has a 44-13 overall record and five tournament championships under their belt including their big win at the Presidents Day Super NIT. Another huge feat for the Spartans was defeating our #2 Oakley Stingrays 9-2, so don’t underestimate them. They are capable of taking out anyone!

The roster includes Lucas Allen, Xavier Carter, Makoa Copp, Graeme Farrell, Javier Felix, Joseph Fleischer, Dandre Gaines, Brennan Keil, Nicolas Lopez, Livio Mamola, and Nathan Nicosia.

(Youth1) – The Lamorinda Spartans are currently having an excellent season. Currently the second-ranked team in California and the tenth-ranked team in the country, the Spartans stand at 40-12. Not including their recent performance at the Spring Championships Super NIT, the Spartans have been one of the teams to beat this season. The Spartans have won five tournaments so far, three-of-which were in a row when the Spartans went on a 14-0 run after back-to-back second-place finishes prior.

The Spartans are playing the almost the exact same baseball they did last year; not flawless but definitely fearless. The Spartans finished last season 30-12 with four tournament wins, outscoring their opponents 313-163. With a run differential of 431-190 this season, along with ten more wins, the Spartans are playing much better than they did last season. The Spartans will look to bounce back from the small hiccup in Arizona and get back to their old ways.
Much like the other Lamorinda Clubs, the Spartans have opted to play mostly against older competition, and it has paid off. With 29 games against 12U teams and only 23 against 11U teams, the Spartans are getting accustomed to playing against bigger and stronger competition, and effectively too. In those 29 games, the Spartans have managed to win 21 of the games, most recently earning two tournament titles over an 8-0 stretch against the 12U’s in March.

Rick Rider has kept himself busy over the past few years, managing competitive teams between 9U – 14U since 2004. His current 11U Spartans team includes Lucas Allen, Xavier Carter, Makoa Copp, Craeme Farrell, Javier Felix, Dandre Gaines, Brennan Keil, Nicolas Lopez, Livio Mamola, Nathan Nicosia, and Mikeal Thompkins.

The Oakley Stingrays 11U Green jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the 1stinning on the offensive power of Christopher Campos who doubled, before Guzman tripled, to score Sebastian Orduno and Jonathan Fuentes.

The Stingrays held that lead going into the bottom of the 3rd inning before the Spartans bats got hot. They started with a lead off triple by Nathan Nicosia. Next up, Koa Copp hit an RBI single. Then, Javier Felix singled sending Copp to third base. Copp was driven home on a single by D’Andre Gaines to tie the score at 2-2.

The Spartans returned in bottom of the 4th inning to add 7 more runs. This offensive explosion started with singles by Koa Copp and Lucas Allen that put the Spartans ahead 4-2. They went on to add 3 more runs on doubles from Javier Flex and D’Andre Gaines along with RBI singles from Graeme Farrell and Nick Lopez set. When all their scoring was finished, the Spartans held a commanding 9-2 lead.

After giving up two 1st inning runs, Spartans pitcher, Nick Lopez, shut down the Stingrays scoring. He pitched 5 complete innings giving up only 2 runs on 5 total hits while walking 3 and striking out 3. Lopez was relieved by Joey Fleischer who came in to close out the last two Stingray batters. Fleischer stuck out both in order.

This loss brings the Stingrays elite tournament record to 34-10-1. The Spartans overall Fall/Winter record since August 2011 now stands at 56-12-1 with 10 of those losses coming against 12U teams. Their only two losses to 11U teams were to this same Oakley Stingrays team in the semifinals of the So Cal Thanksgiving Super NIT.  They other loss against other 11U competition was to the IE Elite.  That loss came in the finals of the Las Vegas Triple Crown Fall Nationals.

Next up, the Spartans will head to the Arizona Spring Training Super NIT.

The 11U Lamorinda Spartans continued their winning ways taking their first official tournament of the fall season.  Playing in the 12U division, the newly 11U Spartans took on the teams in NCTB’s Back 2 School Bash at BLD Manteca.

After taking Primetime 12U’s in the opening game, the Spartans lost a tough one to Headfirst Gamers 3-2.  Sundays playoff brackets gave the boys another chance to play Headfirst Gamers and this time they won 8-0.  The finals were a 7-3 wine against Extra Base.
