Lamorinda Spartans 12U Major – Moraga, CAN
Lamorinda Spartans 12UThe competitors made it a nail-biter in the final match of the 12U contest. Emerging victorious were the Lamorinda Spartans as they closed out a 2-1 win against the BPA DeMarini Elite in the championship game.”I saw a ton of “never give up” attitude.  We have not been in a lot of low scoring games lately, so to see the big plays on defense over and over, really showed their fight”, a very pleased Manager Steve Allen responded after the win.Javier Felix tossed 6 quality innings for the win and Nicholas Lopez closed it out for the save. Felix also went 10 for 18 at the plate and was named MVP.The rest of the series did not reflect the low scoring contest in the final game as Lamorinda finalized a 14-11 decision in the semifinal against the Laguna Baseball – Bandits. The Spartans scored double-digits against their opponents in the pool play games. After being sidelined due to 102 degree fever on Saturday, Brennan Keil pitched a quality outing in one of the big games on Sunday which allowed starter Javier Felix to take the mound in the championship game.Spartans’ offense produced 9.66 runs per game in the series while their pitching staff surrendered 4.66
with a shutout over the Peninsula Nationals in game one of pool play. Lamorinda finished 6-0 in the
Super NIT.Clean-up hitter Lucas Allen contributed defensively and batted .500 in the series. D’Andre Gaines made impressive throws from centerfield and went 8 for 14. Josh Alvarado dazzled on the mound in one of the Saturday games and went 6 for 17 with a clutch 3-run dinger. Allen, Gaines, and Alvarado also made the All-Tournament team. The squad from Moraga, California recently came away with an impressive display at the Super Bowl
Party a couple of weekends ago. Lamorinda came off a brilliant finish last weekend where they defeated a No. 4 ranked SY Titans in the championship game to claim a title. The Spartans move to 14-0 and own three tournament titles in 2013.
